The 2012 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

Yay! It’s begun…

The festival officially began on Friday, September 28th BUT due to whole raft of things, we didn’t get over to Epcot for photo taking until Sunday mornIng….

The central display as you enter Epcot… They’re using a lot of material from last year and honestly, it looks pretty cheap.

These look like they’re made of paper. We’re pretty sure that these aren’t the actual pieces from last year, that they’ve been reprinted – but they’re the same designs.

The information booth is behind Spaceship Earth, before you get to the Fountain of Nations.

The cranberry bog is back again this year and so are the free craisins from Ocean Spray Cranberries.

“Harvested” cranberries

Across the lagoon, at the entrance to World Showcase, there is a watermelon patch and interesting facts about watermelons…

There are a few watermelons growing here (but it’s not as impressive as the gardens in past years)

Watermelons need Sun, Honeybees, and Water…. that’s it… well, according to the sign, that’s it…

Fun facts about watermelons…

more fun facts…

This is nora’s favorite… use a watermelon in place of a pumpkin or a squash when you carve a jack-o-lantern or other face… bet it doesn’t last as long as a pumpkin!

One of two World Showplace displays…

The second World Showplace display…

As usual, there are banner around World Showcase telling you that the Food & Wine Festival is going on…. as if all the booths aren’t enough of a clue!

One of the Festival merchandise booths. These have a much more “permanent” feel than in past years – they even have sliding, secure doors.

Plans for Epcot International Food & Wine Festival

Big Plans – the Festival starts on Friday (yes, only three days away!) We’re going to start our F&W doings with a special event at Epcot. Some of you may know that October 1st is Epcot’s Anniversary and this year marks 30 years since Epcot opened. We made special efforts to attend Epcot’s 25th Anniversary

Two consecutive Friday evenings enjoying bluezoo

Yes, it’s becoming a habit with us – Friday evening at bluezoo. Of course, we have at least four good reasons why it’s a habit…

The food is typically very good (thanks to a very good kitchen that uses real food) The service is usually spot on (thanks to good management) The drinks are generally

bluezoo on a friday evening

Yes, it’s a post about bluezoo again! Can you tell that we really, really like bluezoo?

We went over last Friday evening to have a couple of appetizers and a cocktail, plus we really wanted to talk to Chad about this year’s Food & Wine Classic (see our reviews of Chad’s Sake Class in 2010

bluezoo in January 2012

Back in January, Lisa and Andy came to WDW for a visit. And of course, we had to go to bluezoo for dinner.

Wonderful start to any meal at bluezoo = Chad’s Barrel Aged Manhattan!

Amuse Bouche – our notes read “rock shrimp, mushrooms, cauliflower cream, pickled cauliflower, and gnocchi”

Olive’s Flatbread – this flatbread doesn’t contain olives, it is named for Todd English’s restaurant “Olive’s”

Short Rib and Scallop Appetizer – very yummy

Nora and Andy had the Mero (fish) – it was very smooth and buttery, well seared, and nicely seasoned; however, it was also very rich for a fish dish (perhaps a bit too rich for Nora’s tastes)

Lisa’s Pork Dish – deemed to be excellent

Nick’s Pasta Dish – contains many of the same accompaniments as the amuse bouche; this was more flavorful than the Mero

Chocolate Dessert Sampler

Fishhouse Punch – a very old and traditional mixed drink
