This bit of fun took place on Tuesday, November 4, 2014
We usually go to bluezoo lounge on Friday nights (but, if you’re a regular reader of this blog, you know that already). But during Lisa & Andy’s recent visit, Tuesday evening made the most sense (because of all the other stuff we have going on).
I had one of my usual favorites – One Night in Mexico. Lisa had her usual favorite – Barrel Aged Manhattan. And Nick and Andy both enjoyed an Antidote (loosely based on Gin and Tonic). We shared an order of the Chickpea Panise.
Chef sent out a little taste for us… I particularly liked the halibut in this. It’s very nice for the kitchen to send out something interesting to sample.
We all ordered from the appetizer or bar menu. Nick and I split the scallops and short rib and the lobster roll (we’ve never had the lobster roll, and as the menu is changing soon, we thought we should give it a go and see what we thought). Nick got a new brew from the lounge menu and I ordered a beer that I’ve enjoyed in the past, the Lucifer Pale Ale.
This is quite possibly one of the worst things we’ve ever eaten at bluezoo. The amount of lobster salad in the roll is best described as “very little” (maybe 3 oz split between two halves), it was over dressed (couldn’t really taste the lobster at all), and sorry folks, the fried green tomatoes were over breaded and didn’t taste of green tomato… the sauce under the tomatoes was good.
This on the other hand was absolutely excellent. The scallops were perfectly cooked, tender and juicy. The beef short rib was nicely seared and very tender. This appetizer is definitely a perennial favorite with us.
Okay, so what about Lisa & Andy? They ordered the BZ Burger (not for the first time), when it was delivered to our table, the burger was cold and the french fries were a bit oily and stuck together. So, back it went (Gary took care of things)… Soon, Gary delivered a new burger and fries, this time the burger was warm and the fries were warmer; it wasn’t as amazing as the first time Lisa & Andy had it though.
All in all, although the four of us really enjoy going to bluezoo lounge (we always go when Lisa and Andy visit), we were rather disappointed in the food tonight. Bluezoo was super busy on the evening we visited, our bad experiences were probably hiccups (but noticeable).
