Spice Road Table – Seafood Paella v2

This experience took place on Sunday, May 4, 2014

We so enjoyed the Chef’s Special on Thursday (May 1, 2014) that we went back on Sunday to see if the Chef’s Special was still Seafood Paella or if it was something new. It was still Seafood Paella, and we thought “oh goody, we can have it again and see how it is a second time around”…

We had Amine as our server, he remembered that we like a large bottle of still water <very good>. When we found out that the Seafood Paella was still available, we asked for it “more spicy” (as Chef Samad suggested to us on Thursday). We were a bit concerned that Chef Samad wasn’t in the kitchen on Sunday, but again, we figured what the hay, should be good anyway.

It came out VERY QUICKLY. We soon figured out why… It was cooked too hot and too fast. The seafood was consistently over-cooked. The shells were brittle (from excessive heat).

Seafood Paella version 2

There were more peas in the paella than previous

that calamari is going to be tough

There was no garlic or chili flake (crushed red pepper) in the rice.

the only “heat” came from smoked paprika that was sprinkled on top

There were 8 mussels, 6 clams, 10 calamari rings, 8 shrimp, and red peppers.

there was very little fish in the center and it was also overcooked

sigh, overall, it was tough and dried out…

last photo… we ate it…

This wasn’t good. Thankfully, we’d had it before and knew how great it could be. It wasn’t BAD but not GOOD.

We’re hopeful that we’ll get to see Abdou soon and tell him and Chef Samad about our second experience with the seafood paella…

Quick Story: I think I’ve told you about Nada (one of the hostesses) (if I haven’t told you about her yet, I will in the future and I hope to get photos of many cast members at Spice Road Table), she’s probably in her early twenties and has gloriously curly hair; she always smiles and waves when she sees us walking around Epcot and now greets us with a hug when we come into Spice Road Table to eat… On this particular day, she spotted us as we passed the little ice cream area in Morocco (we were still quite a ways away), she grinned and started waving her hands above her head – it was so great to be welcomed with so much joy and happiness – makes me smile just thinking of seeing her again soon.
