Sukiyaki Beef Pan – marinated thinly sliced rib eye with sauteed onions and teriyaki sauce served in a bun
First off, let’s start by examining what the name means. Sukiyaki is generally a soup/stew sort of dish, nora thinks that its in the title because the thinly sliced rib eye is cooked in a broth and “sukiyaki” refers to cooking method not to the dish. Pan clearly refers to bread or sandwich.
The dish was slightly sweet, more like a barbecue sweet than a fruity or sugary sweet.
The bun was a simple hot dog bun, not toasted. It sogged away to nothing rather quickly; making it difficult to eat the sandwich.
We tried pairing this with two of the sakes offered at the booth: Kikusui Super Dry Junmai and Bishounen Junmai Ginjo; neither paired well with the sukiyaki beef pan – perhaps a Kirin Ichiban Draft beer would have complemented the sandwich.
Frankly, there was nothing very remarkable about it in any way. Using our 1-10 ranking (1=never ever again and 10=gotta have this 2 or 3 more times), nora gave it a 4 and nick gave it a 3; average 3.5/10.
