BBQ returned to the 2011 South Korea Booth at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival, although the receipt still says “BBQ Ribs,” it’s actually little bits of beef. Nora chose it as her very first sample this year.
Looking at the photo you will see that some of the beef bits look a bit “overdone”. Thus, they were too dry – possibly from exposure (sitting out too long)? You can char foods by grilling without drying them out. They were also a bit sweet for Nora’s taste.
The kimchi however was quite good. We noted that the lettuce wrap kimchi slaw was not “kimchi” flavored or colored (same as last year). If they can make kimchi taste good – like as this accompaniment – why not for the slaw? Nora said she’d eat a plate of the kimchi. However, even though we try to give samples a second chance, she is not sure the BBQ Beef is worth a second try due to the sauce being too sweet, perhaps next time she’ll get them to leave off the sauce.
Nora’s note: I watched the CM (seasonal?) serving the food, didn’t seem comfortable around food, if that makes sense to anyone other than me… I was reading another blog about the Food & Wine Festival and they commented on the variability of serving sizes — suggestion to Disney World, use measured scoops for serving at F&W booths — this cast member just seemed timid, like he was afraid of serving too much and that just reinforced the impression that I wasn’t getting a “full share”.
