If you’ve been reading our blog for a while, you know that we really like Fort Wilderness. Before the new kennel opened up across from Port Orleans Riverside and it became more difficult to drive over and park at Fort Wilderness, it was a regular occurrence for us to go to the Fort and go for a nice long walk. We really enjoyed the walk and we really enjoyed seeing how guests would decorate their campsites for holiday times and just to express themselves.
We showed you Halloween 2013 a while back (Nick’s 25 Best Floats and Halloween at Fort Wilderness). Now, here’s the best of Christmas 2013.
Christmas tree at the Settlement (area where Hoop Dee Doo and Trails End are)
Wow! These people have a lot of decorations (actually, this particular campsite seems to always have a lot of decorations – at least since 2006!)
Okay, I just really liked this skinny Santa soldier
Someone had a model monorail set up in front of their driving unit, wonder what they do with it when it rains?
Mike and Sully (from one of our favorite Pixar movies)
Hey! It’s the Abominable Snowman from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, he’s hanging the star on top of the tree!
The reindeer are waiting in their stables (this set up included plastic food for the reindeer and a sign “Help Feed the Deer”)
We saw this inflatable at one other campsite
It’s a Florida Santa!
And a Santa who spends his spare time fishing (nothing wrong with that! Especially if he’s on the inter coastal waterway on the Gulf Coast of Florida!)
Pirate Santa and his crew (don’t forget Snoopy)
This is a mash up of “Steamboat Willie” and “Santa Mickey”
The LAMP from “A Christmas Story” executed as an inflatable
Mean Penguins! They’re playing catch with the Snowman’s head!
Surfboard Santa
We revisited Campsite 1204, a lot of attention to detail like in 2012
Campsite 1204 from 2012
These decorated Christmas trees smelled wonderful!
same scene after dark
I really liked the leaning/bowing Christmas trees
there was a scene in the storage area of the driving unit – unlike last year, you couldn’t walk up to it and take a closer look
Nick managed to get a few good shots with his camera (I didn’t even attempt it with the iPhone)
white deer roamed around the live trees (now, these aren’t LIVING trees, they’re what we call live trees versus artificial trees)
even the pop up carport is decorated
and the cab of the driving unit is crammed with Disney plush
We don’t remember ever seeing hot rods or classic cars at Fort Wilderness – this year there were a number of them, We have photos of this red beauty
the color was so Christmasy and it was SHINY – so, it counts as a Christmas decoration in my book!
Nick has been talking about getting an old pickup truck and turning it into a cruiser for us
Two more! Gold and green… more cars as Christmas decorations
not much to say, except, “Damn, these are pretty!”
To the unknown guests at Fort Wilderness with the really pretty cars… Thanks!
