This is the 14th installment of Eat Each Sandwich Challenge (#2013eateachsandwich)
Thus far, I’ve had…
- Hawaiian BBQ
- Italian
- Ham ‘n’ Swiss
- The All American
- Cannonballs!
- The Original 1762(r)
- Chicken Pesto Pomodoro
- The Full Montagu
- The Best BLT
- The Cuban
- Chicken Chipotle Avocado
- Tuna Melt
- Holiday Turkey
This is the first breakfast sandwich for the challenge… Ham, Cheddar & Egg… there’s a sauce of some sort…
Mini Review
The scrambled egg was moist, not overlooked (sometimes the egg can be a dry and rubbery)
Overall, this sandwich was pretty bland unless I got a bite with some of the mustard sauce, it definitely helped
Comparing the full-sized sandwiches and the breakfast sandwiches
- Full-sized are a better deal with regards to size and to variety
- The bread seems different – the breakfast sized “loaf” is chewier and drier than the regular loaf – the texture is different, not sure why that is… Maybe it’s actually a different recipe, maybe they’re baked at different temperatures, maybe they progress through the oven at a different pace
This was okay for breakfast, I expect that I’ll enjoy the breakfast BLT and the bacon cheddar egg versions more
Last note – as the second half “rested” the flavors and textures improved a bit
Remaining…
- The Earl’s Club
- Caprese
- Caribbean Jerk Chicken
- Egg ‘n’ Cheddar breakfast sandwich
- Bacon, Egg ‘n’ Cheddar breakfast sandwich
- Ham ‘n’ Swiss breakfast sandwich
- Breakfast BLT
- Grilled Cheese just4kids
- Pizza Sandwich just4kids
- Turkey ‘n’ Swiss just4kids
- Spring Special… BBQ Pork
Although by all accounts, the reviews for this sandwich mark it as just middling, your pictures really sold me on trying it! Even if it is bland, I love the ham, egg and cheese combo. Your description of the bread makes me wonder if it might be similar to the “hard rolls” that used to come with our deli breakfast sandwiches when we lived in New Jersey.
I have to remind myself that I’m a pretty adventurous breakfast person… I’ll eat about anything first thing in the morning, especially after a long walk 🙂 As far as this sandwich goes, I think it would be right up my alley if I added some Guldens mustard. The bread. Nick and I talked about the bread, something about it’s size and the heat in the ovens seems to make the last bake act differently. It isn’t bad, it just isn’t what I think of as “earl of sandwich bread.” Lastly, thank you for the nice comment about the photos! Nick will be very pleased!
I wonder if you could order these sammies on a wrap or something NOT so bready… I usually take most of the bread off and use it to just hold the filling..
I’m sure that you can order the full-sized sandwiches as wraps. Keep in mind that this is a breakfast sized sandwich and about the size of a MacDonald’s Egg McMuffin… There isn’t nearly as much bread on these.
