Taste of Marrakesh, a poor tasting – 2013 Epcot Flower & Garden Festival

We were really kind of excited to try the food at Taste of Marrakesh, Sarah at EatingWDW was quite impressed with her first samplings

…even though we’ve been disappointed by Morocco’s offerings at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival for years, in fact… our last attempt to eat at their booth was before 2010. This is a shame because we know we like Moroccan food (we have two Moroccan friends who make wonderful food!)…

Anyway, these are the menu items at Taste of Marrakesh

Food

Spiced Lamb Kebab with Vegetable Couscous Salad

Harissa and Lemon Confit Chicken Drumettes with Chermoula and Cucumber Salad

Baghir (Moroccan Pancake with Honey, Almonds, and Argan Oil)

Beverage

Desert Rose (Sparkling Wine with Pomegranate Liqueur)

White Sangria

Geurrouane Red

Casa Beer

Mint Iced Tea*

We tried the spiced lamb kebab and it was a huge disappointment. The pieces of lamb were minuscule (maybe the diameter of a penny?), they were tough, and they were very “gristly”… Nick spit his out. The couscous was served TOO COLD making the olive oil seems slimy. What a let down. We gave this a zero out of 10… We’ve come to love lamb, so that wasn’t the issue… the problem was a really cheap cut of meat, not marinated well enough so that the connective tissue broke down, portions that were way off base, and again, a problem with the serving temperature.

A close up, you can see some of the cinnamon in the couscous

To give you a sense of scale, we placed a standard plastic Disney fork next to the kebab
