NEW Ice Cream Sandwich from France Pavilion in Epcot

On Wednesday of last week (October 2nd), I had seen a post on The Disney Food Blog – an exclusive news story – there’s a new pressed brioche ice cream sandwich at Epcot’s L’Artisan des Glaces in France… I thought it sounded interesting and of course, had to relay the news to Nick and to Lisa & Andy.

Lisa decided that we should have ice cream for breakfast before the Tequila Lunch in Mexico that we had scheduled for Friday… Unfortunately, L’Artisan des Glaces doesn’t’ open until noon and that’s when our special lunch started. Anyway, we really enjoyed the Tequila Lunch and we wandered around Epcot for a while “playing tourist” (basically doing things that we don’t normally do, like the attraction in Mexico or the movie in France)… Lisa hadn’t forgotten about the pressed brioche ice cream sandwich though… So, we found ourselves going in and getting one made (they’re all made to order) and splitting it four ways.

That’s chocolate sauce under and over salted caramel ice cream

then, it's placed in a sandwich press

you have to cover it with the other half of the brioche

It's pressed and flipped, the idea is that the heat seals the edges and the bread gets slightly warm (Lisa was intently watching the process)

these cast members had some of the most genuine smiles I've ever seen in Epcot, let alone in France! They were really happy to be there doing what they were doing

Yay! Lisa gets the pressed brioche ice cream sandwich

Sliced in half, yummy!

This was quite tasty. We’re so used to ice cream sandwiches being made with cookies or wafers, that the slightly sweet mostly savory brioche was different, but not in a bad way at all. Since we don’t eat a lot of sweets, this is definitely a sharable treat. The cost is $6.10 and I have to say that the quality of the bread and the ice cream make the price seem pretty reasonable. I really want to try some of the other possible combinations, but it will have to be an infrequent treat – this definitely isn’t diet food.

Next up, I want to get Walter to eat one of these (he loves ice cream) and get a photo of him with ice cream all over his face (maybe I shouldn’t say that, he’s enough of a clown to do just that… smear ice cream on his face).
