Q’Kenan’s – not on WDW property

These dining experiences took place on June 3 and June 4, 2014

We had heard good things about Q’Kenan Latin Food (Venezuelan to be exact) – it’s located in the shopping center on Vineland near Premium Outlet Mall (the big one near Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church)… it isn’t far from WDW and sometimes you can find really good, authentic food in these strip mall places. Now, we’re kicking ourselves (a little bit) for not making it over here sooner.

There’s a bit of a problem though, we wanted to go there for breakfast because…

  • Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
  • Nick loves breakfast, always has. After 30+ years, he’s got me where I love it too!

… but they don’t open for breakfast until 10:00 (that’s a bit late for us usually). The first week of June, I had a couple of early morning appointments and after they were over… It was time to eat!

The first visit, we split two breakfasts with coffee (decaf for me and regular for Nick)… There was a garlicky sour cream sort of sauce on the table, it was very tasty on everything.

Criolilito $6.99 - 2 eggs over easy, grated cheese, arepa, and salted sour cream

The Criollito was very good. The eggs were cooked just right and the grated cheese (queso rallado) wasn’t really salty or very creamy, it was a nice savory touch.

Andino $6.99 - black beans, grated cheese, scrambled eggs with onion and tomato

The Andino was even better, the eggs were nicely scrambled without being too dry and the black bean were amazingly tasty

arepa - sort of like southern fried corn bread, very moist and dense and very yummy

we also had a side of fried bacon (deep fried) $2.50 - very good too!

On the second morning, we got the same thing (the same item for each of us, not a repeat of the day before!)… I again had decaf with hot milk this time and Nick had regular coffee with hot milk.

Pabellon Criollo with Egg $9.99 - shredded beef, black beans, white rice, fried sweet plantains

this was the first time that Nick had fried sweet plantains, he loved them! Saved them for "breakfast dessert"

Both of these meals were fantastic. I’d go back over here in a heartbeat. We’d love to try the Arepas (sandwiches made with that “cornbread”) and the Cachapas (cheesy turnovers).

So, if you’re in the area, especially if you’re looking for something to eat other than McDonald’s or food-court-cr*p at the outlet mall… go on over to Q’Kenan!!
