2014 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival – Outdoor Kitchens and our plans for this year

Last year, we tried to eat everything from the outdoor kitchens during the Flower and Garden Festival (link to our FlipBoard magazine, Adults Extra Walt Disney World Magic – Flower & Garden 2013) – we didn’t “succeed” because there were some booths that we just didn’t want to eat at…

Sorry folks, this year is going to be very similar – there are some items that just aren’t worth the calories or the money to us. We’re saying “no” to baked goods that I can make myself (I’m a great baker, Nick tells me so). We’re also saying “no” to foods that are just too caloric for our regular diet (overly cheesy, overly buttery, just outside our preferences).

Note: Asta has helped with a clarification – overly cheesy does refer to foods that are smothered in cheese, we all love a good cheese in and of itself …. <grin>

Pineapple Promenade

  • there’s nothing here that interest us very much, only one beer MAYBE “Tropical Mango Pale Ale” from ST Johns Brewers

Buttercup Cottage

  • Freshly Baked Potato and Cheddar Cheese Biscuit with Smoked Salmon Tartare (we liked last year)
  • Field Greens with Plant City Strawberries, Toasted Almonds and Farmstead Stilton (Nick is wondering if he can just get a chunk of stilton)
  • Pork and Apple Sausage Roll with house-made Piccalilli (we really enjoyed Sausage Rolls while in England, so we have high hopes for this one)
  • Fresh Baked Lemon Scones with Berry Preserves and Creme Fraiche (these smelled WONDERFUL as we were walking by on Sunday afternoon)

Fleur de Lys (this one surprised us both, last year we weren’t really interested in the booth at France)

  • Gnocchi Parisien a la Provencal (Parisian Style Dumplings with Vegetables and Mushrooms)
  • Confit de Canard, Pommes de Terra Sarladaise (Pulled Duck Confit with Garlic and Parsley Potatoes)
  • Macarom a la Fleur d’Oranger (Orange Blossom Macaron with White Chocolate Ganache)
  • Kronenbourg Blanc 1664 (Fruity White Beer with Citrus Notes)

Taste of Marrakesh

  • Lamb Brewat Roll with Prunes and Sesame
  • Casa Beer (this has been changed to Efes Beer – we were told that they’re out of Casa Beer and it will be a while before it comes back, importation and transportation issues)

The Smokehouse: Barbecue and Brews

  • Pulled Pork Slider with Cole Slaw (liked this last year)
  • Smoked Beef Brisket with Collard Greens and Jalapeño Corn Bread (liked this last year)
  • Smoked Turkey “Rib” (we discovered on Sunday what this “rib” is… It’s the “forearm” of a turkey with the smallest bone removed, cool idea – especially given the cost and size of doing the same thing with chicken wings!)
  • Beer Flight: Magic Hat #9, Maduro, Fat Tire, Billy’s Chiles
  • The Original Rib Shack Red Wine

Primavera Kitchen

  • there’s nothing here that interests us very much, we don’t have any plans to stop here

Florida Fresh

  • other than the beer flight (keep your eyes open for full blog post later today), none of this is worth the calories – we already have a place where we like shrimp and grits, watermelon salad isn’t very unique, and we don’t especially want to try kumquat pie after seeing it

Lotus House

  • Spring Pancake (blog post in the offing)
  • Beijing Style Candied Strawberries (maybe, not sure)

Jardin de Fiestas

  • there’s nothing here that interests us very much, we don’t have any plans to stop here

Urban Farm EATS

  • Pickled Beet Salad with Goat Cheese Cream, Mizuna, and Pistachios
  • Land-Grown Eggplant “Scallop” with Romesco Sauce and Spaghetti Squash
  • Ghost Pepper dusted Tilapia with crisp Winter Melon Slaw and Mint Oil featuring The Original Sauce Man’s Kick It Up Rub

That’s it 🙂
