Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios – First 2013 visit

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is amazing to see in person. Watch all the videos and look at all the photos you want, nothing compares to seeing these lights in person. There are many things that are better in video or photos: concerts, natural wonders and others immediately come to my mind. Maybe it is just the Walt Disney World fan in me?

Whatever it is, I am hopeful that the rumor circulating (ask nora for details) that the Osborne Lights may be leaving is wrong. The lights have moved before – twice is my understanding. First from the Osborne family home in Arkansas to Residential Street at what was MGM Studios. Second time, when Disney decided to demolish residential street, the lights moved to the streets of America (or NY and SF streets). Well it looks like these streets are on the Disney destruction list… nora has not told me of any rumors where the lights can be moved. Given the current complexity, I cannot see them going anywhere else at Studios. Maybe the WDW 1% (or .001% more accurately) who own homes at Golden Oak will adopt the lights, put them up at Golden Oak, AND invite say 500,000 people to take bus tours through their most exclusive enclave? “Lovie, pass the grey poupon, please darling.”

Well, my (not sure it is our) goal is to see the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights as often as is “reasonable” this year. It may just well be the last time we see them and if we see them again, who knows what will have changed? I’m not sure Disney makes any money on this – it is expensive to manage for sure. So Disney has put on the show for 18 years. Since they are squeezing the parks for even more profit (already a top profit center for Disney Corp) maybe it is time they just sent the lights to the auction house? Besides, Walt never wanted things to be stagnant – there was always new and better things just around the corner…

Osborne Festival of Dancing Lights opened Friday, November 8, 2013. Because this was a holiday weekend, we waited until Tuesday, November 12th for our first visit. Below are just a few photos. I hope, hope, hope, I can make it back over many more times this holiday season to see the lights in person. Photos nor videos just don’t capture this show…

Bah humbug!
