We got a lot of response when I tweeted a picture of the entrance to the new bathrooms in the American Pavilion (well, a lot of response for us!)… So, on our walk Saturday, we stopped and took some photos.
Photo Essay
The entrance isn’t very flashy. It fits in very well with the area.
There is a small “garden” area in front of the new restrooms. This area has been planted/gardened for quite a while. There are a lot of low walls that work great for sitting and waiting.
Exterior attention to detail. I’m sure that the lights will be handy after Eat to the Beat concerts and Candlelight Processionals.
Close-up of lamp detailing. It’s always pleasing when the designers and imagineers get the details fully right.
Entranceway into the Men’s Room. The floors look like wood, they’re actually tile. The walls are fully tiled too. It’s a very neat, clean appearance with some warming touches from the colors and the lighting.
Detail of the floor in the men’s room… (nick takes better pictures than nora does). This actually looks like an old fashioned painted canvas floor covering. We learned on a tour in Savannah that painted canvas floor coverings were very popular for warm months, easier to clean and sweep than carpeting.
The entrance to the ladies room has different coloring… Purple and cream instead of dark blue and teal. (Sorry that the photo is so blurry)
A bank of mirror in the men’s room… the mirror surrounds are wood (we think)… The mirrors are clustered together near the entrance/exit so that you can check your appearance away from the sinks.
Another blurry photo from nora… These are the mirrors in the ladies room that mirror the mirrors in the men’s room.
Sink area. The ladies sinks were soft cream colors while this shows that the mens sinks are done in more masculine colors. The light fixtures and the wall paper are the same.
In the ladies room, there were 37 regular stalls, 5 slightly larger handicapped stalls (I think of these as handicapped light, rails for getting on and off the toilet, slightly more space than the other stalls for moving around), and 2 really large handicapped stalls. During our visit, the restrooms on the other side of the pavilion (the old restrooms) were still open for business.
Nick took a photo of one of the two new water fountains. They really reminded us of something we’d see in a southern city.
All in all, I’m impressed with how pretty it all is AND how large it is. That space is surely needed after events at the American Gardens Theater!
Mom! There’s a person taking pictures in the bathroom!
(grin)
Luckily, the bathrooms were mostly deserted… Except for some Brazilian kids who screamed and shrieked every time the automatic toilet flushed.
i love looking at bathrooms. All tile means easy to wash down with a hose too. I am betting the sides that look like wood are some composite plastic also washable. And thanks for including the count! Good clean accessible toilets are important. Does Nick know if there are little boy urinals? At DL Paris they had them in both the mens and ladies. I thought that was brilliant.
Nick says that he doesn’t know of a restroom at Epcot without little boy urinals – but he didn’t specifically note on Saturday. As a funny, he says that all the urinals at bluezoo are little boy ones. Ha ha ha 🙂
