One issue we have with the Epcot Food & Wine Festival is food choices and weather. It stays very warm in Florida during October, the primary month of the Food & Wine Festival. Most of the food choices are hot items, some even heavy – items that make you think of winter time (like pierogies and goulash soup). Strolling around in the afternoon sun sweating, these items just hold no appeal. There are a few light and cool items, I’m only talking entree samples not sweets.
Japan is always a good choice for lighter entrees and they do not disappoint this year. If you like tuna and/or salmon, you might particularly enjoy the Tuna & Salmon Sensation.
Yes, in the direct sun the red of the tuna and the orange of the salmon are this bright. Look closely at the salmon and you can even see the muscle clearly – this is very fresh fish. It has the firm texture but buttery bite that we look for. The salmon was just as fresh and tasty.
From the side you will see that there is also avocado and some sauce. The sauce had excellent flavor with soy, sesame and just a hint of vinegar.
This is definitely a “try again” sample. This serving had only one problem, the avocado was not ripe enough. One or two pieces were even crunchy. Since the chef did such an excellent job with the tuna and salmon, the hard avocado was very noticeable.
Note: if you are not “good” with chopsticks you might want a fork. The tuna and salmon pieces are quite small… Nora and I are pretty good with chopsticks and we managed ok. The chopsticks made it easier to push and pull individual pieces into the sauce at the bottom – a real plus to getting the full flavor the chef created.
