Port Orleans French Quarter – 2012 Holiday Decorations

Port Orleans French Quarter; this was our favorite resort for several years. Nora can probably tell you how often we stayed there. I am not sure how many stays but I would guess we spent at least 100 nights there. I know we stayed for Christmas two or three times and nora would put lights in our window. Invariably, we’d hear other guests talking about our lights. They were nothing special, it was just fun to have a few lights of our own. Some of our best friends are couples we met while staying at French Quarter so we have many fond memories…

Walking up to the entrance to take holiday photos so many of those memories came to mind… But we are here to see holiday decorations!

French Quarter always has four matching trees – two at the front and two at the back of the lobby. I assume it is because they do not have space for a really big tree? Whatever reason, the four trees really appeal to my sense of symmetry and order. 😉

Here is a close-up of some of the New Orleans themed ornaments on the trees.

Of course like all Walt Disney World resorts, French Quarter has many holiday “sprays” in the public areas.

I had forgotten that French Quarter always had a tree in the food court. I was not sure why, but looking at older photos it appears the tree was put near the children’s play area in past years. And since I stay away from the children’s area, the tree must not have been as noticeable (or memorable for me).

As we left French Quarter to walk over to Riverside, we were greeted with one of my favorite views at Walt Disney World. You may wonder why? Well, nora always checked us in when we arrived as I would head straight to the bar to see Walter. After an 18 hour drive I was ready for my first vacation beer. I always called the path from the lobby to the bar, avenue of the palms. I have watched those palms grow quite a bit over the years. In fact in my old photos, the palms were easily framed with room to spare. This year I could not stand far enough back (lobby doors are right at my back) to get the whole palms in the photo.

Do you have a favorite resort when you stay at Walt Disney World during the holidays? And if you have never visited during the holidays, is there a resort you would like to stay at?
