It is nice to see a few booths changing menus from year to year. If you attend the Food & Wine Festival annually the food choices can get boring, no really, they can. So when I saw that Brazil added Mahi Mahi, I put it on my must try list. I prefer seafood so I was really looking forward to this.<\/p>\n

The description is\u00a0Seared Mahi Mahi with steamed Rice, Hearts of Palm, and Coconut-Lime Sauce. My imagination tasted some juicy fish with a sweet\/tart sauce from the coconuts and lime. The rice and hearts of palm I could take or leave…<\/p>\n

Okay, I got lucky (at least I thought I did). They served the last piece of fish that had been “sitting” out to the person in front of me. The cook was “searing” more fish on a grill. When they said 10 minutes my face dropped. These are tiny pieces of fish, some quite thin. I could cook a huge piece of fish in 10 minutes and these were on the grill when I walked up! Can you tell in the above photo that the fish is crispy on the end? It was almost fried… What did I miss about searing? My quick look-up says “searing – cooking food quickly at high temperature.” Quickly is the key word in my mind!<\/p>\n

As for my dreams of a nice coconut-lime sauce. My tasting was flat, almost flavorless. Fortunately you can see juice on the plate so that managed to impart some moisture to the fish. And as I recalled, hearts of palm is not something I’m taken by.<\/p>\n

Maybe they made the wrong sauce because I sure felt like I saw and tasted a hint of tomato. Doesn’t look very appetizing, does it? It could have been great. But alas it wasn’t. If I get through all the items I want to taste, I might give this mahi mahi another shot. I’m hoping that they were out of the right sauce (even though it was mid-afternoon during the week) and that they’ll have a cook that can sear a piece of fish…<\/p>\n
