{"id":2930,"date":"2011-05-29T13:21:22","date_gmt":"2011-05-29T17:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.extrawdwmagic.com\/?p=2930"},"modified":"2011-05-29T13:21:22","modified_gmt":"2011-05-29T17:21:22","slug":"im-only-here-for-the-money","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/extrawdwmagic.com\/?p=2930","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;m only here for the money?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OK &#8211; I know that Disney sells and sells and sells. \u00a0The theme parks are close to being more sales areas than entertainment areas (not square footage but number of stores versus attractions). \u00a0I suspect we all take little notice of this &#8211; it is the nature of the beast. \u00a0Besides it appears that shopping IS recreation for many people. \u00a0I don&#8217;t get it but there are many reasons we call ourselves frugal.<\/p>\n<p>At the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival this year, Disney used many topiaries as selling spaces for movies and dvds. \u00a0Take the Pooh display for example.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.extrawdwmagic.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/gratuitous-selling-moviesdvds-at-fg-festival\/2011-epcot-flower-garden-festival-67.jpg\" alt=\"2011-epcot-flower-garden-festival-67\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Or how about the Cars 2 display. \u00a0They couldn&#8217;t get Mater out until nearly half way through the festival but they could sell the premier of Cars 2 from day 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.extrawdwmagic.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/gratuitous-selling-moviesdvds-at-fg-festival\/2011-epcot-flower-garden-festival-68.jpg\" alt=\"2011-epcot-flower-garden-festival-68\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Disney Nature had to promote African Cats&#8230;oh wait, they were promoting the next film???<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.extrawdwmagic.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/gratuitous-selling-moviesdvds-at-fg-festival\/2011-epcot-flower-garden-festival-69.jpg\" alt=\"2011-epcot-flower-garden-festival-69\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ooh, ooh &#8211; a new version of Lion King is coming to DVD.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.extrawdwmagic.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/gratuitous-selling-moviesdvds-at-fg-festival\/2011-epcot-flower-garden-festival-71.jpg\" alt=\"2011-epcot-flower-garden-festival-71\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Why not set-up a kiosk at the topiary to pre-order everything with your room charge? \u00a0Wait &#8211; I might be giving them ideas for next year. \u00a0They even set-up a singing tower with hair falling out a window (not even a topiary) just to push the dvd release of Tangled. \u00a0They disassembled the tower at the end of the festival and fortunately took the sign out too.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-center aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.extrawdwmagic.com\/wp-content\/gallery\/gratuitous-selling-moviesdvds-at-fg-festival\/2011-epcot-flower-garden-festival-70.jpg\" alt=\"2011-epcot-flower-garden-festival-70\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>OK &#8211; I feel better&#8230;a short rant is always nice.<\/p>\n<p>nick<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>OK &#8211; I know that Disney sells and sells and sells.
